The Plot

This 2005 gem is on my top ten movies of all time. I am not exactly sure why but I can watch it again and again. This Michael Bay film follows the journey of an unlikely hero Obi Wan Kenobi and his trusty sidekick Black-widow as they battle the evils of the world. Well not quite true, Lincoln is a clone who starts to question the world around him. In his curiosity leads him to find out that him and all of his companions are insurance policies for the rich and famous to live past their normal lifespans. With this new knowledge he and his best girl make their great escape to find the people who had them made to convince them to help blow the lid off the institute that kept them prisoner. A few car chases later with some badass jet bikes Lincoln finds that the rich are greedy and do not care about them, so they decide to take things into their own hands. They sneak back in and bring the roof down literally. 8/10 this movie is action packed and fun the whole time. I have seen people complain that the acting is rough but if you take into consideration the clones all have a fourth grade reading level the acting is right on par.

The Cast

This masterpiece of a film has Ewan McGregor fresh off his run as the best Jedi from a galaxy far far away. Scarlett Johansson joins him a few years before she made her big Marvel waves in Iron Man 2. Steve Buscemi is back for another Bay adventure after Armageddon. Sean Bean plays an amazing villain subtly evil through the whole movie and loses his shit in the end. Not a packed cast but it works in this case. Ewan is my favorite actor so I will always award points for his addition to any cast 8/10.

The Presentation

This was a typical Michael Bay action thriller. Lots of explosions, blown out colors, and weird uses of the fish eye lens. He has a very recognizable style, and it is very much an acquired taste. Most people will grumble about this film and Bay’s style but if it is what you like screw the haters. I love this movie I love the actors and for the most part I enjoy Bay’s projects. 8/10 I love it but it’s not a perfect movie and I don’t want it to be wonderful in its own way.

The Jury

With an average score of 8/10 this movie did pretty well in my book. It is not perfect and sure it has some flaws, but it is an enjoyable experience from start to finish. I don’t know why The Island got ripped apart by the critics, I don’t think it was warranted. I guess all I can say on that front is form your own opinions and watch what you like and screw anyone who fights you on that. Keep that in mind when a tear apart the movie for next week.
