THE STORY

Let me start off by making it clear I hate this game more then anything. That being said I am going to review it as unbiased as I possibly can and keep it professional. In this game you play as a young thief named Frey. She lost her parents and is stealing enough money in NYC to get away from everything. During a crime she finds a magical bracelet that talks to her in annoyingly condescending manner which becomes a part of the whole game. Frey is then launched into this wild parallel world full of magic and wonder. She soon finds all sorts of powers that control the 4 elements and finds out more information about her lost mother. The video game Rule of Three comes into play as you battle the three sorceress and find out they weren’t the bad guys after all. 3/10 The actual story was short and predictable i knew who the villain was in the second mission. I also started skipping all cut scenes after mission three. Most of this game was walking from place to place which took forever.

THE GRIND

The trophy grind on this game almost cost the life of one or two of my controllers. It took me just over 40 hours to complete and i was white knuckling it the entire time. The game has the standard “beat the story” trophies and some collectibles to get, but that is where the good times end. After that you have to buy and upgrade every power in the game… There are 105 spells you need to upgrade and holy shit is it a slog. To buy them you need a form of currency that enemies drop when defeated and you need a ton of it, to buy the spells i spent hours of pointless fighting of small creatures to just buy the fucking spells, at this point you have been well done with the story. After you buy the spells you then have to upgrade them, for this you have to select the spells you want to upgrade, you can only do like three at a time, then you have to accomplish a feat like defeat x amount of enemy’s with the spell or do x amount of damage with the spell to certain enemies. Not to bad right? Well there are a few spells that require you to hit four buttons at once and it is as close to impossible as it can be because the four buttons all have separate spells attached to them that will fire if you miss press the combo and then you will kill the enemy with a different spell, not the one you want and you then have to go find a new enemy. Each one of these types of spells took me almost two hours. 1/10 This was a terrible experience and i don’t wish it on anybody.

THE QUALITY

Graphically speaking this game was beautiful, fun colors at times, and moved well. That is where it stops. The game feels empty, the enemies are repetitive, and the characters are forgettable. That is the whole game in a nutshell, then there’s the elephant in the game, Freys attitude and her mouth. She swears like a 13 year old who just learned what asshole means. Like holy shit was pissed off twenty something with a fifth grade vocabulary really the move for a main character? Square Enix 100% shit the bed on this game 2/10.

THE JURY

2/10 is the overall score and that is me trying to be objective. This game had some cool parts the spells were cool and the movement system when it worked was pretty cool. But listening to Frey talk shit like an idiot for the whole game, the lack of story, and the annoying trophies killed this game for me. I will not recommend this game to anyone, don’t waste you money. That being said form your own opinions and let me know if you play it and loved it or played it and hated it.
