The Plot

This film was a wild concept to be green lit by a studio. Adam Driver is essentially a space truck driver who left his family to take a group of travelers on an all-expense paid trip across the galaxy. Much like the Titanic they hit a space iceberg and crash into an unknown world. It’s Earth that they crash on, and the iceberg is an asteroid. Also, this space fairing civilization crashed into Earth 65 million years ago. Adam Driver is the only survivor of the crash and decides that suck starting his laser rifle is a better choice than getting rescued. Then the unthinkable happens he is not alone, a kid survived so now he must get rescued, score for Kylo Ren. After battling all the dinosaurs to make it to the escape pod they figure out almost too late that the asteroid that crashed the ship is going to hit Earth…. who would have guessed that. 5/10 the story was horribly predictable and the two main characters either don’t speak English or just don’t speak, you just kind of spend the whole time waiting for something to happen.

The Cast

There is not a lot to talk about in this area. It is Adam Driver and Chloe Coleman that is about it. The other three cast members are more like cameos. Adam and Chloe gave great performances even though the number of things that happened in this movie was super limited. Chloe didn’t speak English, so Adam used the same sign language you use with a baby for most of the film. 6/10 I mean they tried, there really wasn’t much to work with in this film.

The Presentation

The Presentation of this movie was quite nice. Lots of fun colors, the CGI was well done, and the costume design was awesome. Kylo Ren’s laser rifle was sweet, I love it when movies or games put an ammo counter on the side of a weapon. It allows us as an audience to really feel the tension these characters feel dealing with a finite resource. The spaceship was well designed as well, it was original and not blown out of proportion like others. Take Avatar 2 for example the sky hook ships dropping off the like pyramid sized bases, a little ridiculous. 7/10 for this movie there was a lot to look at, but it was just bogged down by not having a lot of story to work with.

The Jury

6/10 For an overall score. Not as bad as the press this movie received, but it was nice for what it was. I do not think this is a film for people with short attention spans even though it was a very short movie at 93 minutes. Most of the time I would say that is not enough time to tell a story but there simply is not enough story to tell in this case. Love it or hate it, it happened, and Adam Driver kicked that dinosaur’s ass.
